Restricting our Right to Record
Public officials, who are acting properly, should never be afraid of having their actions recorded and viewed by as many interested members of the public as possible. The Mayor and Council members have tried to characterize my efforts to make video recordings of Council meetings and meetings of the Downtown Beautification Committee as stalking and acts of terrorism (falsely claiming that the video camera was an unattended object). I think that most reasonable people will draw the same conclusion that I have, that those currently in office, all members of one party, are not acting in the best interests of our town and don't want the voters to see them at work. The introduction of a new ordinance to unreasonably restrict video recording of PUBLIC meetings is their most brazen action yet to try to hide the inner workings of our town government. Don't let them get away with it!
